還有這禮拜又要寫一篇作文。

ASSIGNMENT 1: DUE MARCH 20

ESSAY QUESTION:
In order to fully understand a poem, the reader must be able to recognize the turning point
(the point in the poem where the idea or emotion changes direction).
This is especially true in the sonnet.
Usually, the turning point occurs between the octave and the sestet.
But actually the turning point can occur on any line.
Using four of the sonnets in Astrophel and Stella,
explain how the mood or idea changes at the turning point.
Then explain how this turning point contributes to the reader's
overall understanding of the meaning of each poem.

DIRECTIONS:

You will have three days to complete each essay.  You should spend at least two hours writing your answer.  If you spend only one hour or less, your answer will probably not be complete enough or contain enough details for you to merit a satisfactory grade.

You may use the texts of the literary works, your class notes, and the Lectures textbook.  However, you may NOT use any additional resources or books.  Answer in complete essay form (with introductory, body, and concluding paragraphs).  Quotes from literary works should be used, but be sure to place quotes in quotation marks.  Titles of longer literary works should be set in italics.  Type your answer using a 12-point font and single-space line spacing, and type on both the front and back of each page.  Be sure to type your English name and student ID number on your paper.  Also, type the assignment question on your paper.

Late papers will not be accepted!  No excuses!  No exceptions!  Papers will be due two minutes before the class meeting (at 9:08 AM).  You may turn in your papers early.

PLAGIARISM will not be tolerated!  An act of plagiarism will result in a failing grade in the course.  If a student uses an idea from the Lectures textbook, he or she must rewrite it using his or her own words.  Copying another student's work is also an act of plagiarism.  If one student copies another's work, both students will receive the penalty for plagiarism.  Do not allow other students to copy your work!
